Striding forward, without tripping up
We are constantly looking for new methods, products and materials, plus new ways of finding and interrogating data. To us, a standard solution is a benchmark to improve on, so our innovative approach finds better ways of doing things through rigorous testing. As well as leading-edge digital simulations, we test mock-ups and pre-installations and have the facilities to conduct load and blast tests.
To solve the problems presented by a remote location and the need for ease of repair, we designed and tested a hydraulic lifting system, which could lift each position at the same rate, allowed for small increments in lifting height and a scaffold-free build

Innovators, not risk takers
We know how engineering is done, but what really interests us is how it can be done better. You see that in the engineers who work for us. They're analytical, but creative, people who can generate new, robust ideas. At every level, from Director down, we're 'hands on’ people who think the same way, and use our experience to make the engineering work harder for the design.
We optimised the design reducing the required steel from 700 to 110 tonnes, created a sub structure without form work and reduced concrete volume by over 50%

Boosting buildability
No one would question the benefits of better buildability, but what is the best way to maximise them? In our experience, some of the key measures are -
We developed a building system for primary and secondary schools, which is to be utilised country-wide on a number of sites. The system had to be coordinated with all disciplines and had to be buildable on different sites with considerable variation of site conditions. The solution was a bespoke ‘kit of parts’, which utilised mass produced components for elements, which were unaffected by site specific constraints. Where flexibility was required, the contractor had at his disposal an arsenal of element choices to overcome the challenges.

Design with procurement in mind
Efficient design and engineering solutions need to work with other processes such as supply chain, procurement, logistics and fabrication. We have many ways of achieving this -
On Sugar House Island, our early study of the materials required identified that, considering concurrent developments, the supply of pre-cast would need meet our client’s demand. The client is now building a concrete batching plant in order to control the supply of concrete required for the development.

Connecting different disciplines for seamless delivery
We're engineers working within an organisation that integrates engineering with architecture and operations consulting. This gives us an excellent understanding of how our role fits within the wider project. So if you employ us alongside other external disciplines, we are quick to identify and own the grey areas, leaving nothing unattended. And in specialisms such as health and safety, sewage treatment and geotechnical, we can draw on established relationships with highly technical partners.
